The Cake Kitchen first opened its doors in September 1979 on Outram St in West Perth. The shop operated here for 7 years before moving to 1248 Hay Street where it still is today. Originally The Cake Kitchen it soon was renamed Joes by the locals.
Joe comes with a wealth of experience starting with his training at the Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris where he spent 4 years. He gained great knowledge of the pastry industry and returned to Perth to become a chef at one of the top 5 star hotels where he furthered his knowledge.
Joe Buhagiar started his passionate business with his wife Jane and over many years they have developed the shop and improved a wide range of savoury and sweet products.
Today the shop is a true family business with son David bringing young energy and a love of food to the business. David completed a pastry cook apprenticeship with Joe and they now work very closely together. Joe and Jane's daughter Gabrielle is also heavily involved within the customer service and accounts side of the business bringing many years of experience in hospitality and a degree in commerce.
In addition to the strength of the family within the business. Joe's has been fortunate to have fantastic second generation baker Keith for many years who specialises in pies, pastries and sausage rolls. With Keith, Joes has 3 qualified tradesman baking fresh produce daily.
Joe's has become a landmark in West Perth, a home to hundreds of people for lunches and catering around and beyond the city. It quickly established a strong reputation for quality and price which continues today.
